EXPLORING – the kindness of bloggers

I have had the great fortune of being exposed to the talents of some extraordinary bloggers in the last few months. It is amazing how many of us bloggers there are and all of the many different things that we write about. I was surprised and humbled recently to be awarded two different commendations by fellow bloggers. Yay! People are taking notice of little ole me AND they are liking what they’re reading, even better.

I received the Reader Appreciation Award from Poetry Curator. Denise Fletcher, the Poetry Curator herself, is a freelance writer and artist. Her blog showcases her own work as well as that of other. It is a lovely read. I especially enjoyed her latest post – a poem by Emily Dickinson. Read it for yourself here… Thank you ever so much for the Award Denise, it was a wonderful surprise!

Reader Appreciation Award Rules:

1. Include the award logo somewhere in your blog.

2. Nominate 3 to 5 blogs you enjoy reading. Or you pick the number.

hmm… I would like to nominate these fine fellow bloggers:

The Unwitting Traveller – Lu is roaming the world and taking some amazing photographs along the way. Her recent post on geysers in Iceland contained some truly breathtaking images.

Belly Button Blues – Teresa writes a great grandma blog, full of funny and sometimes scary anecdotes. She calls her grand children by # and her sarcasm and wit work wonders in her writing.

The Usual Bliss – Amber has a great little blog. I love her motto “Today is the happiest day.” I think I will try to adopt this motto too. What could it hurt? Her posts reflect this motto and range in subject from childhood memories to wedding planning. Very interesting.

3. Provide your nominee’s Blog title in your post with a link. Done.

4. Link to the blogger(s) who nominated you. and Done.

5. Share 7 random facts about yourself with the blogging community.

hmm… 1) I lived in a tiny village in India for nearly a year. 2) I have over 30 Aunts and Uncles. 3) I sketch. 4) I am ambidextrous – kind of. 5) I don’t eat cereal. 6) I love Kombucha. 7) I am heading to Chicago soon.

I also received the Seven Things About Me Award from Apartment Envy. I love the logo of this blog, “Make all the other apartments wish they were your apartment.” So great. Kerra Michelle shares some fantastic tips and inspiring ideas that will make you wish you had an apartment to spruce up. I particularly wish I had a staircase so that I could do this… Thanks heaps and tons for this award Kerra Michelle, it was unexpected but totally welcome!

Seven Things About Me Award Rules:

1. Thank the blogger who nominated you. Done.

2. Tell everyone 7 things about yourself.

hmm… 1) I was born in Hawaii. 2) I am a lefty. 3) I will try just about anything once. 4) I had trouble saying the letter ‘R’ when I was young, and every now and then the ‘R’ haunts me still. 5) I am a middle child. 6) I have a Masters in Architecture. 7) I shucked about 50 cobs of corn today and ate one.

3. Choose 7 other blogs (or however many you want because, let’s face it, bloggers make their own rules) you think deserve the award and post on their page that they’ve been nominated!

hmm… I would like to nominate these fine fellow bloggers:

Free Penny Press – Lynne is an excellent writer and comes up with the most interesting blog posts. Have you ever heard of a hobo convention? Neither had I until I read her post.

Global Jaunt – Michelle is a fellow world wanderer and has some amazing stories to tell and great wisdom to pass along. She’s is crossing off a lot of items on my To-do list, like her recent post on riding an elephant (awesome). I hope one day I can do the same.

Irene’s Vienna – Irene writes a wonderful little blog about all things Vienna. Food, music, the viennese waltz… you want Vienna, this blog is the place to go.

So that’s it for the awards. But, another cool blog related thing happened recently too. A while back I wrote a comment on the Workaway blog (the website that hooks me up with all of these great work exchanges), letting them know that I was writing a few posts about my experiences of staying with and helping Workaway hosts. Today I found out they reposted one of my posts on their blog. Awesome. Click here for the link…

So I am feeling pretty special today and pretty darn grateful too. Thanks everyone – I couldn’t have done it without your support! Have a fantastic day.

Thanks for reading!

– Rene
